AT BREAKING OF THE DAY OF GAY
The two men sat chained within the cell,'
They had been told that by nightfall next they would be burning in Hell.
But they themselves just could not see,
How they should be damned for being who and what they were born to be.
The High Priest had called their love an abomination,
and said that they were beyond salvation.
They trembled in the Darkness Deep,
And did not get a wink of sleep.
Then they heard their cell door creak,
And their heartbeats became very weak.
But then, from the darkness a light did shine,
And a Voice froom above said "You are Mine."
Then the dark walls fell away,
And they stood in the light of day.
And so at last had come the day,
When none were condemned or damned just for being Gay.
